Strategies to Successfully Achieve an Outcome and Reach Your Goals

One of the first things I ask a new client is this:

What’s the one thing you want to create or achieve in the next 12 months that would make the biggest difference to your career?

The answer you come up with becomes the focus of our time together.  And that means taking that idea and making it real. But how do you do that?

The GAP

First, it’s essential to recognise that there’s a gap— sometimes a very big and daunting — gap between where you are now and where you want to be. The bigger the gap, the more challenging it is to cross. And how easy it is to get discouraged along the way. That’s why you need to approach your ‘big goal’ realistically, recognising that this is both an outer journey of achievement and an inner journey of discovery and transformation.

Our initial focus is on getting really clear on that outcome and mapping out a plan to achieve the desired outcomes, with a solid baseline against which to measure progress. This sets out your outer journey of achievement, identifying your steps along the way, the people and other resources you will need to muster in order to fulfil on this ‘big goal’.

The baseline provides the few metrics you’ll use to measure your progress along the way, so you’re always aware of how far you’ve come, how much you’ve gained. You’ll never measure  against the gap. That gap is daunting enough without using it to highlight what you haven’t done or achieved and thereby discourage you.

There are plenty of obstacles along the way.  That’s why it’s so important to stay focused on your goal, even when it seems everything is going against you. The many demands on your time and energy can pull you away. Unhealthy work environments, or unexpected challenges may easily threaten to derail your progress.

That’s when having the support of a coach to challenge you and hold you accountable is so important — especially in dealing with your reaction to those external circumstances. These obstacles bring you face to face with your own limiting beliefs and fears, and could stop you in your tracks if you don’t overcome them.  This inner work is critical to achieving your outcome.  Indeed, possibly the most important aspect of it.

Having coached many women through to achieving their big audacious goals, I understand the importance of both the inner and outer journeys and can help you navigate them successfully.   With the right support, you can turn your aspiration into a reality and go beyond what you thought was possible.

Don’t let another day go by without taking action toward achieving your dreams. Make a plan, stay focused, and get the support you need to achieve an outcome and your goal. It’s time to create that one thing that would make the biggest difference to your career in the next 12 months.

Book a short call. Let’s ensure you get safely across the gap.
